Made it to USA. Anyone there?

Hi,
At last made it to the USA, after lots of paperwork.
Crossing west over top of the Gulf now.

I had planned to dip into Mexico to put my Visa on hold prior to running up the West Coast, but have been getting lots of tales of how "dangerous" it is. Any advice or recent experience.

Also any folks out there with big fields that would handle a small tent (mine)? Just need space pitch and some drinking water.

No phone yet, but looks like Walmart is the place for that (as with so many things).

Will try to watch mail each day, and hope to hear from you.

William.

Ps. Planning to do the bike insurance on-line with motorcycle express. Is all the other paperwork just done at the border?

BTW. Yes I know all about the 7 "P"s. I'm just stupid.

Good - I am glad I am not the only idiot riding around North America in the middle of winter.

I am not an expert on this so will be prepared to be shot down by those who know better BUT I don't think that the US visa goes "on hold" when you dip out of the country. From what I remember it just keeps running.

Hi Craig.

Hi Craig,
Well, I think there may be method in our madness; being out of season makes everywhere less hectic.
I'm in the south at the moment; where are you travelling?

William.

I am in Tucson at the moment - floating around AZ until Christmas and look at the Grand Canyon, before I finish doing Route 66. Probably go up to Utah before that to Monument Valley and Zion. All depends on how much snow is about. Don't mind riding about in the cold, but icey roads are another thing all together.

After I think I will head to Mexico - after that who knows!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
