Real World Traveller
Bill....do you know if she is heading to HU Colo for the July 12 mtg? Would be great to hear/see her there. If she's heading north through Alberta, invite her to contact folks in Red Deer.

Amazing stuff
Holy shit Bill, that is the most amazing story I have read in a long, long time. Good to see good old country hospitality is alive and well all across the world.
Just goes to prove you can travel on any type and age of machine with minimal gear.
I take my hat off to the tough lady.

Maki's route north
Roughly here is her route north. Baniff, jasper, dawson creek. fairbanks, deadhorse, Inuvik, cassiar/hyder, vancouver. Anybody along the way feel free to contacther with a place to pitch a tent. You don't want to miss a chance to meet a amazing and humble person.

Wow- I'd really love to know how anyone doing a big trip can do it on $10/day. It's been costing us a minimum of $40/day in fuel alone and we haven't even hit Alaska yet! Now in Whitehorse, Canada and have been living in the tent pretty much the whole time in North America (except when put up in cities by the generous people we meet) as accommodation is just way too expensive for us. Even South America generally cost about $20-30/day.

I read that she does not exceed 40 mph which seems would help keep mileage/fuel costs down. I couldn't imagine what she is eating for $1/day to sustain her, but figure that people are pitching in for her food-wise.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
