Northern Canada Routes

Hi there,

Im off again...

Looking for info on the most northerly routes in Canada, from west to east. The best maps i can find show ALOT of blank areas between villages. Does anyone have any experience with this adventure?

I have experience in the north, Yukon, BC, AB, NT border regions but nothing for SK and MB.
Has anyone puddle jumped their bikes with outfitters, and what is the price?
How about the riverboat systems on the Athabasca lake delta systems (Peace and slave rivers)?

How about getting across Hudsons Bay?

Lots of questions and so far not many answers for this beautiful canadian wilderness.
Thanks for any help.

Dean

I drove through the center of Sk And MB last year, and i tell ya there is not much to see, gas stations are few and far between. The northern parts of those provinces are beautiful. Cant help to much with the water crossings due in fact that there probably is none. The most northern town in MB is a town called Churchill and i believe that the only way to cross Hudsons bay is by plane. The road north to Churchill is VERY desolate and alot of people go by train. I know a fella in Churchill if you would like to contact him, but ill only give that info out over the phone. So email me and let me know if you are still interested.

Thanks,

So the more I look into this trip, the more I realise that my original maps are correct, there are no roads in northern SK and MB!
I really want to see the desert around Lake Athabasca, but other than that I am resigned to follow all the roads to Winnepeg. After than I can make my way north into labrador from Quebec, for there are no other roads further north in the James bay area. What a country hey!

Thanks for the help,

Dean

I did a trip from Vancouver to Toronto using the most Northern trajectory that I could find and still maintaining a Eastward direction. It is possible to go farther North, but it usually ended up as a dead end. Lots of gravel. Let me know which way you are headed as I now live in the Gaspe of Quebec and welcome any crazy overlanders...
Forget about the West Coast of the Hudson Bay. Lived there too, and quite simply there are no roads North of Kuujjuaraapik. Flying your bike into one of the Inuit Communities is prohibitively expensive and offers you very little riding opportunities, as the only gravel road usually leads to the town dump.
good luck

Any one ever ride all the way into Churchill?? If so could you provide a little insight into what road, trail, path you took? So far all I see is the Railbed, it looks like you could ride it, might be illegal, but it is rideable.

Thanks for any help, I really don't feel like loading the bike on a train, thats why I have a GS,so I can go any where

John

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
