Yoni you are very ambitious. I live in montana, a state that is 1000km across that has beautiful roads and art and music festivals all summer long. I have done a trip to alaska and back in 10 days but that was ride ride ride. What really interests you, or if you haven't travelled in the US before come and spend a month going from seattle to montana to alaska and back. I could buy a bike for 2000$ US that would last for a month and my insurance would cost about 150$ US. The cost of living is 2.50$ a gallon for gas, a restaurant lunch for 8.50$ and campground with showers 20.00$ or cheap motel 40.00$ (just a rough idea on prices)

I'd think buying a bike and selling it back would be cheaper than renting one. You'll need an address though. If you're going to start or end in California, I can help out.
One month isn't much time. What sort of stuff do you want to see?
No idea on what insurance would be as a foreigner in the US.

Contact Motorcycle Express re sinurance - they're on the links page, (link on left) and on the Sponsors page, http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/sponsors/ and tell them we sent you to get a discount, and a little to support HU.
Re route, I'd agree with Bill - you're going to spend all your time riding hard, and not seeing anything. Try "cherry picking" - choose an area that you like, and do it well. Western USA would be plenty for instance.

Thanks mates
The thread was started here in order to get some info on the subject to advise my daughter and her boyfriend who look for a month long bike trip in north america.
First thing I understand is that it is going to be only the west up to AK. and buying a bike is wiser.
Any more ideas?
THANKS Dave for your generosity.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
