Also, you can take a side road on the west side of the Fraser River between Williams Lake and Quesnel. Most of it was fairly recently paved and it takes you right down to the river and then through peaceful country settings with farms and homesteads. A much nicer option than the relatively boring highway 97.
If you're interested in some gravel backroads get the BC backroads mapbook. There's a network of roads from Quesnel towards Vanderhoof, bypassing Prince George. Blackwater road is one option (all gravel). Another is to head to Nazko (all paved) and then a network of gravel roads which take you back to highway 16 near Vanderhoof. The scenery isn't great throughout these roads but neither is highway 97 via Prince George. Fuel was available in Nazko when I went through there last summer.
Have a blast!

Home made pasties, that's a win right there. We'll be heading over to western BC at the end of august after the Naskup Meeting, Rough plan is the Kootenays, Jasper, Lake Louise, Banff, Calgary then drop into the states heading towards the Califorina meeting Via Yellowstone.
When we actually get moving you'll be ale to track us on this map, which we'll aim to update every day.

KLR's swarming up north

Probably not. The missus and I are planning a trip from Vancouver to Inuvik two-up on a KLR this July. I have heard the bugs aren't as bad then. Too bad our times don't match, it would be cool to meet up. I was in the Dease Lake area two years ago and I can vouch for the riding - it is great. Watson Lake was a bit of a disappointment. Might not be a bad idea to bring bear spray - just say'n...Mediazin Junction to Stewart had more bears than mosquitos - granted it was August and the fish were heading upstream!

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
