We stayed at the New West hotel. It is relatively central on Peace ave, and the staff was both very helpful and spoke enough English to get by.

The special bonus for us was that they agreed to lock our bikes into a gated yard, which was terrific. Note that this area is only accessible by a very narrow alley; I think 1200 GS owners might get stuck!!

The only downside is that they have the worst hotel breakfast I ever experienced -- though maybe this is normal for Mongolia?

I could probably forgo the Oasis the next time, now that I have learned Sybil has sold up. But then again, the new owners are probably just as nice.

I think, on reflection, the biggest drawback while staying there, was sometimes having to wait in line for a hot shower. As a paying resident, it was easy to expect to have first choice, but the Oasis helps the locals by providing cheap hot water amenities, not too many of them, in the yurts!!

I'm looking for medium term motorbike storage (1 month) in Mongolia in 2015. So Oasis in UB would be one option. Does anyone know if there are any options of storing a bike in Zamiin-Uud (close to Chinese border)?

Regards

We also stayed in the New West Hotel and would recommend it too.

Havent been there in 20 years, but it was a one horse town last time I saw it Pete.

I might try the local police, if you cant find any decent hotel there.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
