Entering China and Tibet
I'm intending to ride to China via Irkistam border pass this coming June. Then to enter Tibet and ride all the way to Beijing. I contacted a guy in Kashgar that will make all the arrangements for me. Paper work, permits and gather a guide and a driver with his car as an escort. it is VERY expensive!
Do anyone here know if one can ride solo, or should I need to gather another rider. the agent in Kashgar is not sure about that. and I need to be sure before sending any deposit...
Thank you
Y.

Hi, also I intend to go from Kyrgystan, Irkeshtam into China on the silkroad and then go to Xian and afterwards go to Mongolia. My bike is already in Kyrkystan because I left it there last year. I have already investigated a lot in Chinese procedures. If we are 2 riders we can do the 25 day trip for about 2 to 3000 € each as fee to agency + guide. I found a guide who is willing to go on bike and by thus we can save about € 4.000.

just a quick update, today it is only possible to enter Tibet with a tour group. And this tour group must consist out of only travelers with the same nationality as yours. Probably the world's most stupid travel restriction, but keep in mind when planning trips to Tibet.

This was correct last year but the incomprehensible same nationality rule has been scrapped. I am travelling to Tibet with a multi-nationality tour in September.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
