Iran / Pakistan visas, Letter of invte?

Hi Guy's,
Bit late in the day as we leave for an RTW on the 27th Aug. but............myself and a friend would like visas for Iran and Pakistan but have been told that we need a letter of invite for each country. We are UK nationals by the way.
I have been told that there is "a man who can" help on the HUBB but as yet I cannot track him down.

Any and all help would be good, otherwise we have to fly Turkey.......India.

Scavenger07

PS. any tipps / ideas for getting from India to Thailand without flying?

Got two Iranian visas last year without the dreaded letter, one in Istanbul and Ankara, the other in Dubai. My recommendation: get the Iranian visa at home. Even if it expires on route I have heard that it may be quicker to get another one, as you have already been approved once by authorities in Tehran.

Pak: got two visas in my former home country Germany by mail, took 5 days and no letter. If you apply in your own country they can't ask for the letter, because there is no UK embassy in the UK. However, my visa expired on route and in Ankara the German embassy refused me the letter, telling me that my trip "is finished". The foreign office officially wants to prevent people from passing through Baluchistan. From memory I think the Pak visa is valid for 3 months from date of issue, so if there is a chance that you can get to the border inside 90 days get it at home. Unlike Iran, having an expired visa in your passport doesn't help.

Iran: Get a letter of Invitation, it increases your chances of approval. David from Stantours is very helpful & has been recommended numerous times here on the HUBB

Pakistan: Dead easy for UK nationals if you go there in person. My travel-partner went there in the morning & got his visa same day, without LOI.

On the phone I was told by the Pakistan Embassy that the visa is valid for 3 months. But we got one issued for 6 months, no questions asked.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
