Part Answer
Assumption - your location Devon, UK so you have a UK registered vehicle. Therefore no carnet required for EU countries including Poland. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia - I think they're all in the EU - check to be sure - if so no carnet required. Russia - no carnet required - you get temporary import certificate at the border valid for 10 - xx days - it depends on your visa type. Temporary import certificates are discussed elsewhere on this forum - search. Other countries I don't know. [Edit - yes Robbert - Russia still not inside green card scheme - insurance 3rd party required - don't bother with fully comp as its not worth it]

Hi Liam,
No carnet required anywhere in Europe including Eastern Europe. Not required in Turkey either. The ex soviet states I don't know.

No Carnet needed
I think you'll need additional insurance for Russia, not sure though. Took my car in to Russia in 2002 and I don't remember that involving a lot of paperwork. Definetly no carnet.

Liam -
Posts above are correct - no need for a carnet. It is not required in all former soviet empire. Yes, you will need 3rd party insurance for Russia, green card is not valid there but should be valid in Ukraine (mine lists Ukraine but I still haven't gone there). You biggest hassle will be to bypass Caucasus as it's impassable due to unstable political situation. There are ferries Turkey - Russia, Georgia - Russia, Georgia - Ukraine. At least Turkey-Russia line has been already described in threads like this one: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...+turkey+russia
Good luck,
Kris
