Who were you? Kazakhstan 1995
A good friend and I took a motorcycle trip on two Ural motorcycles with sidecars from Bishkek to Ulan Ude in July and August of 1995. Somewhere in Kazakhstan (or possibly southern Siberia), in late July I believe, we were stopped by the side of the road sorting out (yet another) problem with the bikes, when we were passed by a rider clearly outfitted for a serious trip. They were riding a Japanese or European bike with large aluminum panniers. They were riding fast, maybe 75mph, and we did not see them until they had passed us, and were disappearing down the long, open road across the plain. I couldn't swear to it, but I seem to remember them wearing a full-body riding suit, maybe white or light colored. They were the only thing resembling a tourist we saw during our entire Russian trip, and after days of dirt and hunger camping and rumbling along on our slow bikes, they looked like something out of another world. I've always wondered who it was. Was it you? Flan88.
