tomtor to susuman
hi walter,
no the 950's didnt quite make it, although we went very close (i needed another 2 litres), and had the going been marginally easier i think it would have been fine, 2.5km in a days riding doesnt make for good fuel economy!
I think for anyone planning this, just be sure you can do at least 300km on a tank of fuel, which will take you from Tomtor back to the highway into Susuman which is well travelled. You'll find someone on that road to help with fuel, it's Russia after all, the locals are amazing like that. Just make sure it's daytime when you hit the highway, being out of fuel on the side of a mountain pass in the dark in minus 15 deg is no fun!
We also saw a few other signs for fuel after we turned off the old road and before Susuman, but dont know if they are functional
The new highway from Yakutsk to Magadan was all in very good condition when we went through in early October, a little ice and mud at the end but generally able to maintain over 100km/hr.
i'm off to japan in 2 days then into se asia and making my way home from there, paul flew out this morning, and barton leaves on wed too, sad to say goodbye.
