Riding to Oz
Hi Tim,
 to the HUBB.
The first thing that came to my mind when reading your questions was .... do you realise that today is 7th of October and you are going east into the winter ???
China. Give it a try. There are some border crossings in the west of Mongolia (North of Urumuqi) where somebody told me it could be done there, maybe you can make it to one of them before the snow gets too high or your Indian made bike stops to work because of the cold. But get a visa for China before you try to enter with your bike.
I entered China last year with my bike, but it was not easy (even harder to leave) ... here is where and how I did it.. (in spring, not in winter)

Russia. As far as I know, to sell your bike legaly is not that easy and for sure you wont get a good price (but who knows?). I sold a bike in Magadan in 2003 and had no problems leaving, but a lot things have changed since 2003 in Russia. So hopefully somebody else here on the HUBB can tell you more about leaving Russia without the bike.
Why not sell it in Mongolia, it should be legal there and more easy (but this is just a guess, as I have never sold a bike in Mongolia).
But think positiv, you will enter China. Start drinking again if it gets too cold or the Chinese get too difficult.
Nashdarovje. Paca.
