Looks like I'll be in Tajikistan in November... would love to ride the Pamir Highway and Wakhan, but know it's not the ideal time to ride (it being a bit chilly and all).

Does anyone know what sort of temps and conditions (weather and road) I could expect at that time? I presume it is feasible.

I'm trying to plan my route through central Asia and am not sure whether to include the Pamirs/Wakhan or skip it.

I don't mind the cold. I just need to know what to expect so I'm properly kitted out. Currently all my winter gear is at home, so I'd be buying local stuff to bulk up my current gear.

Appreciate any feedback/experiences.

I'm now in Karkol and heading to Bishkek in the morning

Well one month ago I rode around from Kryg to Ishkashim with just my motorbike texttile jacket & trousers with nothing on underneath and was sweating (yes even on a motorbike)

Last week when I rode back it was so cold and the locals said it is October weather in August, I would take warm cloths with you

I read your blog and I am very impressed, especially with you carrying a pack raft and rafting when needed*

I take my hat (motocross helmet) off to all you people cutting about on pushbikes !*

You could encounter snow. I did the Pamirs 9 times in 2001 when i was working in Khorog. And we managed to get in a snowstorm in June... That said i'm nearly sure you will see snow. And nobody clears the road... And when it snows then it really snows. For my part, November is much to late to cross the Pamirs.

FWIW we were snowed on in July last year (heavy enough to built up on the bike, helmet and clothes) and there was a lot of snow on ground every time we hit 3900-4000m.

We were in the pamirs a few years ago the beginning of Nov. The road from kyrg to the border had the first heavy snow of the season. We were in a 4x4 so were ok. Would've been tricky on a bike. Not much snow at the top. Roads were clear, but cold. Below zero every day dropping to -10 at night.
