Pamir region open again in 2013?
Last summer (2012) most of Tajikistan/ the Pamir region (where you also require a GBAO permit) was closed to tourists following some shootings/ armed intervention by the Tajik government. This was covered at http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...-highway-65451
Anyone been there since the closure and travelled the Pamir Highway (road M41(?) and the Wakhan Valley) in/on their own vehicle, without a guide or convoy or other government bs?
I appreciate it might be a little chilly at this moment in time.
Is your Tajik embassy issuing visas/GBAO permits? (not that this is any guarantee for being let in anyway. Lots of people with valid visas/permits were thrown out of/ not let in last summer).
I have a bike parked in the area and would possibly like to go there this summer.
Many thanks for any up to date information. :-)

They did open it again about a month or so after the travels. So it should be open this year.

Many thanks for this info. Muztoo, you say a "local driver". I presume you mean a Kyrgyz or Tajik person. Any info on Europeans/North Americans etc. being allowed to travel between Murgab and Khorog? Also, any info on the Wakhan valley?

Reason: Correcting the year. 2012, not 2013 :-)

This summer my original plan was to ride my bike from UB/Mong round Siberia, return to Mongolia and freight it straight back to Europe from UB.
So plan B could be as above (Siberia etc.), except that I head back towards Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and either park the bike in Kyrgzstan and ride the Pamir region in 2014 and then ride home, or if I have the time, ride the Pamir region this year too and freight the bike home from Kyrgyzstan.
Let me have a think about this one
What's the latest date this year that the Sambor-Express can transport a bike from Kyrgyzstan to Poland?

Border on A372 open for tourists only!!
We have contacted the border officials in town. The boarder is open, for tourists only! Not too long of a queue then.....

We will strat on July 25th, from Bishkek. And I can deliver the bike anywhere in Europe.
I organize a group to Tibet and probably I will have 2nd Express in the end of August.
