Quick Russian visa from India possible????
Hey
I am trying to find out whether I can get a visa for Russia from their embassy in India. I am from the UK and need to get to Russia as soon as possible, but am guessing that what with the letter of invitation and the particular processes that seem to be in place for obtaining a visa, its not going to be quick, nor will I be able to do it direct through the embassy.
I am only going to be in Russia for a couple of weeks.
If anyone has applied for a Russian visa outside of their home country, especially India it would be great to hear from you.
Cheers
Char

It seems that many embassies and consulates are now requiring that you apply in your home country. So, before you start the process, call the embassy and find out if they will even accept your application. Don't e-mail, because you never know if/when they will reply.
From Mumbai consulate:
A citizen of a foreign country (non – Indian citizen) can submit his/her documents for a Russian visa at the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai only providing that he has an Indian residence permit or a long-term Indian visa, according to which he/she had stayed not less than 6 months in the territory of India.
You need a LOI in any case. But some agencies can issue one in one or two days (for a price of course).

Chris, thanks for the word of warning. Much appreciated. I have had much the same response from a couple of visa support websites. I will check it out direct for sure. Not sure now if I am even going to head that way, but if I do I will be sure to post whatever info/difficulty I get into.
Cheers m'dear
