Last year in juli I arrived to South Korea with ferry from Russia - on a Suzuki DL 650 V Strom.
After several hours Thinking, the costums want 2000 US $ in deposit for riding 3 weeks in the country - so I just put the bike on a truck to Busan and shipped it to Vancouver.
greetings

I looked into this early this year. I called everyone I could think of in Australia, hassled anyone I had contact details for in Korea, searched the net and enlisted a friend living in Korea. And the result was that no-one knew.
The most useful thing I found was the web forum of the Korean customs department. Suprisingly this seems to be the main way they receive and answer questions.
However if I decided to do it I'd just turn up, preferably with a few phone numbers of people high up in the customs department, and see if I could talk my way through.
Good luck
Hen

Except for German registered bikes and few other`s countries registered bikes bureaucracie (customs) and riding in Korea should not be a problem.
Traffic is quite dangerous though, fast cars, tendence to ignore traffic rules, particularly traffic lights. Do not rely on drivers driving as you would expect, even though they often are reliable...
I posted a few things about riding in Korea. Search for my name.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
