You should ship to Vladivostok first, then to Magadan. As far as I now there are no customs in Magadan.

THE MAN for you is Yuri Melnikow from Links Ltd. in Vladivostok.

Mail: ymelnik "at" links.ltd.com

Just check the HUBB, you will find tons of positive feedback.

Had the pleasure to met him last week, now waiting for my bike to
arrive in Novosibirsk.

Best regards from cold Russia

Uwe

The usual way is to fly the bikes airfreight to South Korea and then take the ferry to Vladivostok. The ferry is about $1000 a bike, I don't have the slightest idea how your going to get the chase vehicle there. Go over to the Motorcycle Shop on 400 Potter Drive, Anchorage(the local BMW dealer) Don Rosene the owner might have an idea. Dave

There have been developments this year

There was no air shipping since 2006 between Magadan and Anchorage ... until July this year.

Yakutia Airlines began flights from Petropavlovsk to Anchorage in July, using 737s. That should mean they can now fit bikes in them, if the flights are still running. From Petropavlovsk you would need to fly onwards to Magadan, but I believe Yakutia do that route too.

It seems to be a summer thing ... running between July and September: See link below:

Even if you can get them to Petropavlovsk, I'm not sure if you will be able to fly them to Magadan; at least last year I called Yakutia Airlines and asked them if it was possible to fly a bike into/out of Magadan, and they said "no".

IIRC, that was in April/May 2011, so it might have changed since then, but anyone wanting to do this should certainly check before planning a trip around it!

Iker Iturregi flew his 990 from Magadan back to Moscow a couple of months ago so in theory flying a bike into Magadan should be possible.

Not to throw stones, but Magadan>> Moscow is not the same as Anchorage>> Magadan. Russians have some quirks that one thing does not necessarily lead to another thing, if you understand what I am saying.

Others have said to ship a bike to Japan or S.Korea first, then to Vlad. There used to be a ferry to Magadan from Vlad, or maybe just ordinary freighters?

Anyway, whatever you find out, please post so others will know what some options are.
YMMV

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
