Shipping from Mongolia to Laos
Hi - We are currently in Ulaanbaatar and looking to ship our car to the Laos border as we live in Luang Prabang and this would/should be cheaper than the cost of driving it through China. Can anyone give any advice as to Companies that may help us here or alternatives. We have a quote for shipping from Vladivostok to Bangkok but it would make more sense if we could go a more direct route.
Thanks in anticipation.

Hiya,
You can contact Pan European Shipping, they just shipped 2 cars for me, one from Thailand, one from Malaysia with no issues and were very helpful.
andreas.koenig@pan-europa.de
Prices pretty reasonable too...

Thanks - contacted them a couple of days ago and waiting for a price. Looks like it will need to go a long way around via Bangkok rather than a more direct route so cost will be higher.

Pan European were not competitive but found a local Company to ship through China by Rail then onto a ship to Bangkok - as there is no direct Railway going over the Laos border from China we could not get any Company to quote this route. $2870 for a 20ft Container - would have been cheaper sharing a 40ft Container but nobody around doing the same trip now - still a lot cheaper than driving own vehicle through China!!

That mode combination sounds more time & cost efficient.
What port in China will the rail reach and the ship depart from?

Xingang port - shame the proposed Rail line through Laos was shelved as that would have make it cheaper and quicker for anyone wishing to avoid the high costs of driving through China. Line only needs extending from Kunming to just over the border!

There should be a way to ship entirely overland via a combination of rail and truck, but it would be less conventional and likely require more effort to arrange. Logistics infrastructure in the western regions has improved a lot. The challenge would be getting your limo trucked down to the lao border from Kunming, but they already do it for other goods so not too much of a stretch.
If you ship to Thailand and need logistics support with customs clearance, parking/storage, etc. then suggest you contact Tim at siammotorworld dot com.

After your shipping is complete and you know the end costs and time, don't forget to add the information to the database! http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/node/add/shipping
