Shipping UB to HK and London
We just shipped 2 bikes from Ulaanbaatar/Mongolia. One to London by airfreight and one to HK by seafreight using DHL. It was quite tricky to find people willing to ship the bikes in crates and not in containers.
A Honda Transalp 650 from UB to London, door to door with DHL by airfreight cost us c.usd3200. I know expensive for that bike but we are attached to it.
A BM GSA from UB to Hong Kong, door to door with DHL seafreight cost us c.usd2300. So not so much of a difference between the two considering it took 10 days for the airfreight bike to arrive in London and c. 2months for the seafreight to HK.
If you want to make the European leg cheaper, this can be done if you pick up the bike in Southampton but my mate didn't want to be bothered with all the port issues.
Be careful when you freight to Europe regarding the fumigated crates. We didn't have that (as Mongolia hasn't got someone doing certificated fumigated crates (try to explain to a Europe official that)) and this wasn't an issue in HK but caused quite a bit of trouble in the UK but we got around it, since the crate was somehow varnished.
The DHL guys never did such a shipment before but whilst costing a lot, we got the bikes in perfect conditions...I prefer quality and having a bike rather than having issues for months in order to save a few bucks.
The DHL contact in UB was Battulga Byamba (battulga.byamba@dhl.com) and tel: +976 (11) 310 441.
Good luck
