Straight from Kazakhstan to Mongolia

Hello everyone,

We are leaving for Mongolia very soon and just planning the route from Georgia. We were hoping to go from Turkey > Georgia > Russia > Kazakhstan and then straight to Mongolia and then back through Russia so we can use a double entry visa for Russia.

Does anybody know if this is possible please or do you have to go from Kazakhstan to Russia then into Mongolia?

We are leaving in 2 weeks!!

Thanks in advance.

Music.

Seems I will need a multiple entry visa for Russia to do this route.

you need to look at a map ... Kazakhstan and Mongolia do not touch ... there is no border between them, let alone a border crossing.

Try these threads for more info:

And this one has maps for shortest routes:

yes, I see that now. I was chatting to a lady at realrussia.co.uk and she mentioned this route but obviously looking closer at a map she is totally wrong.

Looks like we'll have to be getting a multi access visa to do this route.

Thanks

Sheesh... Getting tight for time!

Apart from getting a map to look at, your other important task in that time should be to get a Rus Visa sorted before departure.

Assuming you are a GB citizen you can only apply in countries where you can produce documentary evidence of 90 day+ Residency.

For a Multi Entry Visa, as Colebatch confirms you will need, it will have to be a Business Visa. This involves getting Invitations approved by the Ministry in Russia - physically getting it to you in UK then applying for a Visa in UK.

Have you factored in to your schedule the 45 day maximum limit between Visa issue and its Start date?
Also bear in mind the 90/180 day limit on such Visas. You may need that lead time to ensure you can comply?

Busy fortnight ahead with these tasks - if nothing else to prepare !

Hi Tony,

Very tight....

We are from the UK and are going all round Europe first and should be hitting Georgia around the start of July. Bugger, does that mean we are supposed to get to Russia within 45 days of getting the visa in the UK?

At present we set off 24th April and get to Russia around 10th July.

Thanks again

I meant you can only get a visa validity forward dated by up to 45 days from it being issued.
You cannot use it until the validity date. But nothing to stop you getting it now and using it at anytime during its year long validity.

The point I was thinking of was that such Visas have a 90/180 day restriction. That means you cannot spend more than 90 days at a stretch in Russia and during each 180 days of the Visa validity you must be out of Russia for at least 90 days.
In other words you must also spend at least 90 days out of Russia in the first 180 days, and the same in the second 180 days.

Depending on the length of your trip and long term plans you should be aware of this 90 day rule and may want to forward date the validity as much as possible to have the available days at the 'other end' without rushing into temparory 'exile'.

I hope I have made this understandable.

Ok I see.

We will be into Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and back into Russia and on our way home within 90 days so I assume this will all be fine.

Ill be calling the visa people Tuesday

Thanks for the advice.

Sorry for dealay - I was editing when I had a on keyboard moment! Fortunately I had a spare.

There was also another keyboard!

Sounds fine. Your time in Kaz and Mongolia will count as days out of RUS, and be added to the days from Visa Validity date to Entry to Rus.

An invitation takes a week or so to be issued in Russia. It is possible to then get the Invitation sent to the Embassy by telex at a similar cost to DHL - £35ish. It is then possible to get a completed and accepted visa application processed 'next day' for even more!

You will need an Agency to get the Invitation. The going rate for the inviting company is currently about Euro50-60. Your agency will want their fee.
After that you can do it yourself or continue using the Agency.

You need a UK Employers letter confirming you are going on their business and they will cover any costs you do not meet. (Get a friend with some letterhead to do it - they never check). Alternatively you can be self employed and produce an original, current, bank statement showing a balance at least equal to £100 per day of the visa validity period.

Being a UK citizen you don't need medical insurance, so answer 'no' to that.

Whether you do it or your own agency does, the application must be made through the Russian Embassy's own Handling Centre (that you pay even more money to). Full details here Russia Visa Information - UK - Home Page
