Traveling and Parking up in Russia

Hi, I am looking for some advice, we plan on leaving South East Asia at the begining of June 2017 traveling first through China (guide already booked) then into Mongolia before entering Russia with our truck on a 1 month tourist visa, we would then like to drive to say Novosibirsk and leave the vehicle under cover with power for the batteries for the winter, then fly out of Russia before our visa's run out. We would then return around May time 2018 to continue our adventure, my first question is will the Russian authorities allow us to just leave the vehicle without telling them and secondly is there anybody that can recommend a safe place we can leave the truck undercover for the winter at a fare price in the Novosibirsk area.

I'd think you will want heating with that ... how low does it get in Novosibirsk? Umm -19C in Jan... that is 'usual' .. bet it gets colder when you park your vehicle. It will not be cheap.

Hi,

Actually (at least 2016) you get a TIP (temporary import permit) for 12 month. Therefore, you can leave your car as long in the country.

More information:

We are also looking for a place to store our Landcruiser in Novosibirsk after a Mongolia trip. If you are lucky, we would appreciate a hint.

Regards
Bernd

As Bernd says, you should get a 1 year temp import cert when you enter Russia, so you should be fine, although you should definitely check the expiration date on the term import cert when you enter just to make sure.

as for storage, most/all siberian cities have a 4x4 club that could probably set you up in some way if you contact them.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
