UK to Mongolia - How much time?
I know it is a loaded question as it depends on so many factors but without doing silly miles per day how long should I allow for a trip to Mongolia & back? Am looking at having 4/5 weeks to spare & on a limited budget, ie camping more than hotels.
Also when is the best time of year to do it?
Thanks for help
Martyn

Hi Martyn,
I've not travelled that way yet, but my initial reaction to your post was that 4-5 weeks sounds like quite a tight time scale to get there, without even thinking about coming back again
Others who have done it will be far better placed to comment though
Good luck with your plans
Sam

pure travelling time
from UK to Mongolia is 10 days. you'll see nothing but tarmac but will have enough time left for Gobi.
3 days to Msk, 7 days to the desert.
there was a guy this summer who did the same route in a van in 10 days. search the forum.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I need to allow at least 2 months & ideally 3 if we want to get the most out of the trip or maybe put the bikes on the train in Russia & spend more time in Mongolia.

Definately prioritise Mongolia. It´s much more interesting than Russia. If you don´t know how to ride in the dirt, do some trail riding. You´ll have a blast.

It all depends on what you fancy?
For me..scenery/landscape, people, history, culture etc. are why I ride to these places...
The Altai in Russia is interesting...but Western Mongolia is stunning...a jewel..unspoiled by the flock of tourists and campers.
Hell...I wish I spent more than 1 month there...enjoy it...can't wait to go back!

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
