Large float rod for 41 litre Tourtech petrol tank
Please can anyone help...I have a 31 litre petrol tank on my 1150 GS adventurer and I have now bought a 2nd hand 41 litre touratech plastic tank, unfortunately I have only got the tank and on Touratechs website if bought new it comes with the larger float rod arm. Please can anyone with technical knowledge help me...
1. Will the float rod lever in my 31 litre tank be too small for the 41 litre tank, i.e.my petrol gauge will show empty when I have 10 litres of fuel left.
2. If this is the case does anybody know, because Touratech won't help, how I have to make the necessary adjustments so that my 31 litre float arm is accurate on the 41 litre tank.
3. I just don't want to put a 41 litre tank on my adventurer and the petrol gauge not be accurate so I am trying to sort this problem out.
If anyone has suffered the same or knows any answers I would very much appreciate your help.:confused1: Rob

Hi Rob. Glad to see you got your posting problems sorted.
Touratech wont give you that information? Why ever not? Surely it's in their interest to support their product, even if they didn't sell it to you? That's not good public relations.
Regards
Nigel in NZ

touratech wont help? surprise surprise.
what you are describing sounds like a cistern float, does this mean BMWs have parts from a toilet inside?
take it out and have a look. if its on an arm then surely you can make a longer one? probably just a bit of bar with a thread at both ends

how complicated is that?
hi bimota,
just had a look in the service manual for you, and thats a mad system. fancy having to take off the whole fuel pump assy just to get to the fuel sender? its just a little tube bolted in the bottom of my varadero tank!
its not just a little threaded rod as i suspected, its a wire rod with a few bends in it and the diagram doesnt show how it attaches to either end so i assume it all comes as one part.
make sure the shape of the touratech tank makes it possible to elongate the sender float arm, and it doesnt foul on the side of the tank?
if its going to fit in there and youre sure its going to work ok then its possible to elongate the float rod quite easily, theres a straight bit of a couple inches long that could be cut and an extension piece put in
