Date of last service: Full service by AEW Auto – the solid front axle Hilux specialists in Cape Town. I owned this vehicle for the past 100 000 km and serviced it fully at least once a year, and had it checked up before every major and minor trip. Mechanically, the vehicle is very well maintained.
History: I bought the vehicle in 2007 with 160 000 km on the clock with the express purpose to turn it into a complete overlanding vehicle for our family. It had essentially one previous owner, a banker, who used it to visit the Kaokoland and Botswana once a year.
In between us it was owned by a Toyota salesman for a year, who did not drive it much. 80% of the kilometres were done on open roads – the car was never a commuter vehicle. I keep it in excellent mechanical condition, since I take my family with small children to remote destinations.
Our trips were to the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape, Okavango and Caprivi, to Zimbabwe and Mozambique, to Kaokoland and to the Richtersveld recently. In between we have done many campiing trips over weekends in the Western Cape of South Africa.
The car has two new BF Goodrich mud terrain tyres at the back, and two with 30% at the front (at least 15 000 km and a similar spare.
