Looking for the perfect vehicle for your London to Cape Town overland adventure? This is the one.
(that is not a sales pitch, this one has done it before! - faultlessly and flawlessly from start to finish)
Every once in a while, something special comes along. If you know about Land Cruisers, here it is -
This vehicle has the legendary unbreakable H151 gearbox, making it the strongest Cruiser out there.
It is a right hand drive, with full UK registration. Recently taxed and MoT'd, both valid to May 2018.
(there is none of that cheap-and-cheerful Land Rover trash on this vehicle, every part is top quality)
The following modifications have just been completed to further improve this unique camper:
Brand new, unused, genuine heavy duty cotton canvas roof-tent (not the recycled plastic junk)
Firestone air-bags fitted to rear suspension between chassis and axle to help carry heavy loads
Genie 6-branch headers fitted in place of factory manifold for added power and fuel economy
Air intake system has been modified with unrestricted parts for improved air supply to engine
Timing belt and tensioner pulley changed, hubs serviced, bearings repacked, brakes serviced
Terrain Tamer breather kit fitted between gearbox and transfer case for pressure equilibrium
Engine oil upgraded to Castrol Edge 5W40 Gearbox and transfer upgraded to Castrol Syntrax
New brackets and factory rubber bushes fitted to replacement stainless steel free-flow exhaust
Comprehensive underbody inspection and full service (all fluids and filters) so all ready to go

The following text is from the previous owner's original listing (some specs since superseded):
If, like many people considering an overland expedition, you’ve been searching high and low for a 1HZ 75 series, then you will already know what a rarity this is in the UK. If on the other hand you have just stumbled across this by chance, you have made a very lucky discovery – read on!
This is a unique opportunity to buy what must be one of the best 75 series Land Cruisers in the UK, fully kitted out for expedition use and fully UK registered. Privately imported from Australia 9 years ago, this was the pride and joy of a member of the Land Cruiser Owner’s Club UK when I bought it in 2012, in pick up form. This was no builder’s run around – the guy was a watch repairer.
Since then it has undergone a no-expense-spared overland build, and has just completed a 6 month tour of southern Africa with ZERO breakdowns (unlike a 6 month old Land Rover we had to rescue in the Kalahari…)
Quite simply, the HZJ75 is considered by many to be the toughest and most reliable car ever built, and is still the choice of NGO’s and aid agencies the world over, due its solid dependability. Whether you’re planning to drive the Silk Route, London to Cape Town or Alaska to Patagonia, this car will take you where you want to go – and back.
Within 2 days of buying it I had a note on the windscreen asking if I was interested in selling it, and since then I’ve lost track of the number of people who have approached me about buying it. So I don’t expect it to hang around, particularly as this starting price represents a massive saving on the cost of sourcing and prepping one from scratch. You could spend considerably more on a kitted out Hilux which in 5 years will have lost half its value. This on the other hand is a legendary vehicle for which demand in Europe will always far exceed supply. You could easily spend a year looking for one of these and still be disappointed, so don’t miss out…
The Vehicle:
1990 Toyota Land Cruiser HZJ75. Its legendary 1HZ engine (4.2L, non turbo, straight 6) runs faultlessly, having been checked for compression and timing by Toyota only 10,000kms ago – both were spot on. Fully base line serviced 18 months ago, and since then serviced only by main Toyota dealers every 6,000kms. It was last serviced by Toyota in Cape Town only 200 miles ago. The air con is ice cold. There are no leaks at all from any of the engine, gear/transfer boxes or diffs. Switchable 2/4WD with locking front hubs, high/low gears and limited slip rear differential. All in perfect working order. The body work is in virtual time warp condition, with NO rust and only some very minor stone chips and scratches. It was originally white, but was re-sprayed metallic grey prior to export from Australia.
Overlanding upgrades:
“Quad Tech” rear expedition box built by Roger Young. Full width “gull wing” doors on gas struts. This alone cost £7,500 just 18 months ago. It is virtually scratch proof and easily customisable with graphics/stickers. It has a fully fitted out kitchen on one side, and huge storage space on the other. This is one of the major benefits of this vehicle over a standard estate version, giving full and immediate access to all areas with minimum faffing and set up time.
Long range fuel tanks (giving total capacity of over 200L)
Old Man Emu shocks all round, with heavy duty rear springs. Both front leaf springs and shackles are new (less than 6 months old). Poly bushes all round.
IPF Halogen spotlights with changeable 55w and 100w bulbs
80w solar panel linked to batteries
2 x heavy duty batteries with split charge system (the leisure battery is 18 months old, the main one about 6 months old)
500w inverter (converts 12v power to mains)
Twin fluorescent strip lights with spare bulbs
Heavy duty custom built aluminium roof rack
3 x mesh storage pockets
ARB Touring awning (2.5 metre)
Cast iron 2-burner cooker connected to 11kg propane bottle itself secured by Quick Fists
80L water tank with General Ecology Nature Pure filtration system (the best you can get) with spare filter
Shurflow water pump and tap
Bull bar with towing points
Radiator anti-grass mesh
255/85/16 BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tyres
Original Toyota snorkel and diff breather kit
Aluminium side storage bins
Sony CD player (8 months old) with USB input with charging ability
This is not the typical oil-dripping, crappy Land Rover to be haggled over, so don't try. That aside, I am happy to help with sincere enquiries.
