Toyota Surf Wanted, south west UK
Hi, I'm planning a UK to SA trip in September. My budget is tiny so a Surf seems to fit the bill. There are a few locally that I am going to look at and could "customise" myself, but if anyone has or knows of a Surf that is expedition prepped or is getting there it'd be well worth a thought.
Side track - anybody have any thoughts on a passage through Syria? (i'm going down the east coast of africa.

When are you hoping to leave? I have an expedition prepared surf (SSRX KZN130 auto 1996) with loads of spares. I am looking for a landcruiser so will be selling it reasonably soon (when I find an LC).
Surf has been to Mali and back and has been well used so don't expect anything flashy - It works well though and has been well maintained. Back seats removed and bed/storage fitted, roof rack fitted, A/C converted for tyre pump (can pop 265/70 15 back on to the bead no bother), steel wheels. Also have replaced the rear window with steel sheet - this means it can be operated with a padlock if the rear window motor/relay goes when on your trip.
Used, working spares include (amongst other things) 2 x water pumps, 2 x alternators, belts and hoses, radiator, starter motor, full set of lights, all windows except front windscreen, doors (with internal mechanisms) etc....
If I was taking it away again I would put the spare radiator in as it's better than the one currently in there. Also, there is a running repair on the turbo oil-feed pipe (copper olive to fix a leak) this lasted a year last time I did it and I've just re-done it but might be worth getting it replaced - 42 quid fro toyota. Also, back springs are tired so I might replace them if I was going to be off-road with lots of weight. Other than that it's ready to go.
It's high mileage (360,000km) and has been well used but I would take it on another trip no problem.
If you're not in a major rush to get going then I am open to sensible offers and can send you some pictures etc...

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
