I also bought it recently from him: quick reply and shipping and easy paypal payment. Still have to read it more in depth, but in principle very happy with it.

Consider as well Chris Scott's "Overlanders' Handbook". Really good book.

Unfortunately the new print run of VDEG has already sold out.
I understand there is the possibility of a further updated reprint in the late autumn, depending on the number of back-orders that appear.

What a shame, I guess you just missed it: I ordered my copy the 28th May and the site is not yet updated and shows available instead of sold out... Sad, as he says himself, "sold out drove used-copy prices to absurd levels".
Overland Expo site used to have copies for sale, but they seem to have run out as well. You may double check with them if they still have any. Overland Expo - OX Gear & Books
But with such a demand, chances are that there will be a new reprint, so just need some patience (I waited as well, since 2nd hand were "no way"!).

Hardback 1998 copy on ebay at present for traditional stupidly high price (125 quid)
I bought mine in 1999, just walked into stamfords in London and there was a pile of them there.
I now keep that copy for best (especailly as its now a signed copy) and travel with the 'field edition' which is the softcover version.
Ideally it needs reformatting so that a site such as Lulu or even amazon could do on demand printing of it but I guess that would be alot of work, or the RGS to help Tom fund a larger print run to keep prices down

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
