Hello fellow travellers !

We are now sadly selling Nemo, our dear VW Combi. It definitely differs from its more modern peers, but will still allow you to drive any roads and it wiil allow you even more encounters and discoveries to make your journey unforgettable. We add to the Combi itself all the gear you need to hit the road straight away.

By regularly taking care of Nemo the way we did, you will just like us be able to drive easily through Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru (and maybe more!) without it failing on you. Our Combi turned out to drive perfectly on asphalted roads (in good and (very) bad shape), on ripio (dirt or gravel roads with crazy holes), sand, salt…until 4500m of altitude!

Know that you won’t ever be left alone with a Combi because there are Combi fan clubs all over the continent, and they are always ready to help! We will give you all the contacts you will need and of course you can count on us anytime in case of any doubt of question.

SPEED:
As any VW Combi with its entirely original engine, its maximum speed is 80km/h, which is not the fastest, but allows one to fully enjoy the journey, for those who really enjoy living the present moment. Besides you will encounter many roads here that are in quite a bad shape and on which you wouldn’t be able to go faster!

MILEAGE:
We bought the Combi at 37 000km and today it shows 57 000km. It is hard to tell the real mileage because the counter only shows 5 numbers, but no matter what, Nemo is in a super good shape.

MECHANICAL ISSUES:
We have only had one major problem linked to our alternator, which we had to change (the alternator is a piece that you change very rarely in a vehicle so you won’t have to worry about that). Apart from that, all the mechanics we’ve met were quite astonished to see a Combi in such good shape. The other cares that we provided are actually daily maintenance, that you will learn easily with the “Combi for dummies” guide that we will send you in addition to the quick “training” that we will give you. We will also give you our complete mechanical history that include the following works:
- Installation of a new battery (December 2018)
- New tires + alignment (December 2018 + rotation every 10 000km for a better conservation)
- New brake discs in the front (December 2018)
- New alternator (March 2019)
- New exhaust pot (March 2019)
- New brake cylinder in the back (April 2019)
- New spark plugs (May 2019)
- New fan belt (May 2019)
Draining and other necessary maintenance (checking the rockers, the motor compression, lubricating the front axle) have been done regularly, as attests our maintenance notebook.
Just to be noted: a tiny rock found its way until our windshield, so we had the impact repaired and it hasn’t grown ever since (15 April 2019).

EQUIPMENT:
We have redesigned part of the interior that was not entirely optimized. That way we have installed a cooking table with backing trays and sink (water intake with a foot pump), and a deep cycle battery linked to a solar panel that allows you to be absolutely self reliant anywhere you go, and even when you’re not driving!

To sleep:
- The back couch become a comfy 2 person bed very easily (115 x 190cm)
- Complete bedding + extra blanket super warm and soft
- Curtains on every window for more intimacy

To eat:
- All the cooking gear you would need
- 2 gas hotplates
- 1 5L gas bottle
- 1 electric cooler 12V + transformer 12V-220V to plug it on the solar panel or on the car battery

Storage:
The Combi is filled with storages and hiding places for your secret or regular stuff!
- Big storage under the couch + double-bottom
- 3 shelves
- 2 deep storages + 1 less deep where we put the electric wiring
- 1 cabinet with shelves
- 1 case on the roof (100L)
- 2 gas cans (20L each)
- 1 water can (20L) on the roof
- 1 water can (10L) inside the Combi

Power:
- 1 solar panel 100W (120 x 54cm)

- 1 deep cycle battery 12V 200A
- 1 converter 12V-220V
- 2 inside garlands powered by USB or battery

- Spare fuses and electric cables

Tools:

We will of course help you get your RUT (very easy) thanks to a good friend in Santiago who will serve as your “godmother”.

Our dear should be sold around mid-August 2019 in Chile (Santiago or other, depending on you). We could also drive a bit with you to help you get used to your new home if you want to, of course.
Don’t hesitate to contact us on Whatsapp at +55 11 9 4663 6885.

Your journey will be a unique experience in itself, and it will be even enriched with this legendary vehicle, and we wish you to benefit from it as much as we have!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
