Loopy,
While I try to avoid travelling with a laptop, I do use a Powerbook as one of my workhorses and it sees some time on the bike with me when I shoot assigments on digital. You'll find it as capable as any out there, although it's a bit pricey. I assume you're fluent with Mac OS, if not, I'd probably search for a smaller machine in the PC realm. The huge advantage macs used to have when managing graphics has slowly diluted into nonexistence, unless you deal with prepress houses.
Bottom line: If you like it, go ahead. But a PC will do it too.
I strongly suggest you (and anyone reading this, for that matter) head for this link to see Powerbooks and other digital wonder gear working through truly spectacular, demanding conditions. Great pics and interesting reading too.
Roberto.

Hi,
I have since 2 years a Apple Ibook. I haven't travelled around the world with it on a motorbike. But I did take it around Europe to the most messy buildingsites imaginable. (it is scratched up and banged up pretty good by now) Since a year I do take it on my bike with me (without special casing, just the normal labtop thing everyone uses). Just put it in one of the panniers.
I only have had one starting up problem after a extremely bumpy ride. But I could easely solve it with Norton Ulitities.
So I gues when you provide it with the necessary padding and take a Norton Utlilities with you go for the Ibook. They are bomproof.
Oh yeah, make sure you put someting inbetween your screen and your keyboard. Otherwise you will get scratches on your screen after a while.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
