mini DV recorder
Hi,
I use the Sony DCR-HC32 for my helmet camera setup. It has a LANC port to plug the remote control into, and a mic port as well. Have captured some pretty great footage on a trip to Alaska, the Yukon Territory, British Columbia and Northwest USA, from Ohio and back. The LANC port is needed for the remote control on my helmet camera, yours may differ though. The cost is under $450 for the Sony camera only. Don't think this model is made any longer though. If you check the web you can find cameras which are compatible to you helmet camera.
Good luck,

There seems to be a general cheapening of consumer grade cameras. Fewer MiniDV in favor of DVD and Hard Disk (both of which I wouldn't want to use on the road). Fewer and fewer are offering A/V In. The market of people recording their kid's soccer games is overwhelming the consumer market I guess.
I settled on a Panasonic GS400 which is fantastic for the price and has everything you're looking for minus LANC connection (which would be a plus). It does however come with an external wire remote to operate zoom and start/stop. Problem is, they stopped making these a couple years back so you may have to smell around ebay.
Also, good luck!

Whatever you buy, do not settle for less than a 3CCD camera. These have superior (broadcasting) quality and are available way below Euro 1000,-
Cheers,
Noel

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
