Bike shop in Almati, Kazakhstan
Hi All.
I can't praise highly enough, or recommend strongly enough, Free Rider Moto Salon in Almaty. I went there on two occasions. First was to service my bike. They sold me the oil I needed, gave me a space in the workshop and left me to it. All I needed from them was something to drain the oil into, which they happily supplied. No charge for doing this.
Second time was about a week later after I'd limped back there with a knackered rear wheel bearing. This was on a Friday afternoon. Once again they gave me workshop space so I could remove the wheel. They took the remains of the bearing out and on Saturday morning they went to the 'bearing market' somewhere in the city, got the bearings I needed and fitted them to the wheel. I refitted the wheel and all was well. 8,000 Tienge was all they charged for this; 6,000 for the bearing and 2,000 to fit them. The total cost was less than I'd have paid for just the wheel bearings back in the UK. Brilliant service.
They've just moved into new premises and have plans to build a hostel and a bar. If they do it will be the best place for travelling bikers anywhere. They're great people.
