Mechanic in Iquique

Got stuck in deep stoney track on monday and broke 3 spokes When I eventually got to Antofagusta I was given the name of a BMW specialist in Iquique Sammotos This guy was very good came and collected me from hostel in town as his garage is difficult to find he didn´t have three new spokes but took three from a spare 1150 that he rents hen he would replace when his spares arrive. He then charged me only 80 pounds for a brand new Continental TKC which is only a few quid more than back home. The daughter of one of the partners is fantastic and speaks good English so everything was easy.
Website is sammotos
Phone no area code 57 then 392818
it is best again to phone first as he is very difficult to find
Very highly reccomended

not great experience

This year (2015) we had an accident in the desert and needed a front fork straightened. We went to Sammotos because his reviews seemed best.

He did drive out to our hostal to fetch the broken part and was eager to help. To straighten the front fork he tried to charge us $250 - a ridiculous price. He also gave us some dubious advice regarding gasoline and entry to Bolivia.

We did manage to bargain him down to $190 for the fork and to fix the radiator mounts and a few other small jobs, but left feeling like we had had a bad experience.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
