having spent the day trying to find stuff in Dar, I've been talking with Hussein (top fellow) at Tuk-Tuk about taking pre-orders for tyres, chains etc so he can get the bits before arriving here. it seems that it takes 2-4 weeks so its worth giving him plenty of notice, but he's keen to provide a service halfway from Cairo to Cape Town. if you're planning to pass this way and need tyres etc etc call him on 0222110304 or fax 0222119742 or email tuktuk ((at)) raha .dot. com

Repairs in Dar es Salaam
Personally I wouldn't recommend using Tuktuk for repairs but rather only for getting pre-orders like Rich suggests. Hussein is a good guy but his mechanics work in a filthy workshop on a sandy dusty road, not good for an open engine. Try Hussein's TukTuk shop for your quick spares, it's down town and anyone will be able to help you find it if you say Tuktuk.

For repairs I would recommend a german mechanic named Frank Carbort (sp?). His number is (255) 22 - 0756443940. He has many mechanics working for him in a huge workshop about 10 km west of downtown dar, on the road to morogoro (and zambia).

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
