Above Arctic Circle Winter Tour - N Scandinvia

Time again for another trip. It's a short one this time but it won't be lacking in adventure I'm pretty sure - a 3 week winter biking (the pedal sort that is) and camping tour from Kiruna to Tromso in northern Scandinavia.
Setting off in 2 weeks.... very excited about it and just a little apprehensive. Pedalling in +30C I'm quite comfortable with after 2 years in Africa, -30C could be quite another matter!!

Well, pre-trip blog post if you're interested is here:
Winter Bike Tour Countdown - FTO-Day Minus 15

You could call it practise for another trip next winter as part of my next long tour...

One day I'll upgrade to a motorbike - got my license recently!

Hey, how were the condition of the roads? much/snow and ice? I am riding from Oslo to Bergen then on to Tromso/Nordkapp from the 1st of March over 3 weeks. How do you think a motorcycle would fair? I have all the necessary equipment to keep warm, and will purchase spiked snow tires. How was the weather?

Wanted - sorry, only just seen your post...
Think you'll be fine with a motorbike. The main roads were in good condition, they are swept regularly so not much snow ever accumulates. With spike tyres there should be no problem. Guess the hardest thing is getting the bike started in the cold...
Weather - it's warmer on the coast than inland. We had temps mostly between -10 and -20C, down to -30C on a couple of nights and just a few below 0 on the north coast during the day. That was end Jan / early Feb. Hard to guess the weather - it can vary a lot. But if you've good gear you should be fine.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
