Hi, I'm new to the HorizonsUnlimited community but I already see lots of people here who I am familiar with through Instagram: LotsOfLittleWorlds, Garnaro, RideDot and others I'm sure. Figured it couldn't hurt to post about our trip here as well! My name is Dominic and my ride buddies are Tom and Luis.
We are three amigos vagabonding south from San Diego to Panama on DR650s. By vagabonding, I mean we will be doin' lots of camping and scrounging for our own food as we go and basically trying to do this on the cheap.
Two of us, myself and Tom, are freedive spearfishermen so we will be packing breakdown polespears, masks and bodysurfing fins on our bikes to hunt dinner as we go. As long as we are near the coast, I imagine we will be eating well! We've operated under this paradigm in Baja before and its been a big success with the bikes allowing us to reach remote beaches full of tasty sea life.
Tom and I are also surfers/bodysurfers. We considered bringing surfboards like the legendary Garnaro, but for better or worse I think we are just going to use our fins and hand planes to bodysurf and see about borrowing boards as we go. We will also be packing these things called surf mats which allow for high speed belly surfing, pack the size of a nalgene, and make you look like a weirdo.
If none of this makes sense, we made a hokey little vid that kinda helps explain. Its composed of footage from home and Baja. I couldn't get vimeo to embed so here is the link:
Still confused?

I wrote a blog post which goes into more detail about what the hell a surf mat is. Tom did a cool little write up about how we rode our bikes down to rescue our friends truck from mexico. More about previous rides as well. I could cross post this stuff here but didn't want it to seem so impersonal to just copy and paste to Horizons.
We'll be making video segments as we go which should be kinda cool and unique. Expect better videos than above! I want to incorporate more of the people we meet, the culture and the lifestyle of our adventure.
We leave Sept. 1st. Thanks for checking us out.
