Canada to Argentina!

Hey Guys,

I just realized I've neglected to post my ride on here. I hope you all enjoy my blog and also if you are anywhere nearby, by all means touch base and throw Dan and I a note. Maybe we can meet up for a coffee or a ride!

cheers,
Clay D

Well, I have to say...I love the Tiger....... but I've been having a serious stalling issue, which seems to be getting worse. Very tough in a crowded city amoungst a throng of people. Let yesterday in Antigua!

Wouldn't of been nearly as serious if I wasn't in the middle of nowhere with no dealer close by. I'm in Guatemala city right now, and they're checking out my baby. Hopefully all will be good by the end of the day.

I didn't post on here since I last updated the blog, so there was more to read there awhile ago, and I will try and post again very soon. Probably by tomorrow.

take care,
Clay D

Tiger software

I think there was a re-mapping software update for that stalling business; best if you ask the dealer to check what version should be loaded.

mapping

Hey again,

Yes, I had the Tiger in before and had the mapping updated, but thanx for mentioning that.

I just got back from the dealer and the Tiger will be ready in less than and hour. They said the problem was just a dirty contact in the ignition switch. I hope they got it, because it's a long way to Argentina with a stalling bike!

Looks like you had some good adventures yourself. when's the next big trip?

ciao,

Clay D

trip

Great to see this blog - I read through the whole thing last night.

I'm planning a similar trip next year.

By the way, in case you have not heard they are re-opening the ferry boat service from Colon Panama to Cartanega, Columbia in the middle of May. This will be a huge savings in cost.

Hey Jim,
The trip has been great so far. I've met so many cool people and seen so much. I'm realizing you can never have enough time for this trip, but I'm going to make do with what I have.
I'm just trying to secure passage south, but if the ferry re-opens for the return trip that would be great.

hope to hear from you again,
Clay D
PS: I just posted again recently and should have another update really soon.

hey there

so sorry I missed your post before. So, the Tiger was doing great up until recently. There had been a few minor things, but just as I got to La Paz, Bolivia my chain came off and damaged my engine case. I was having a real hard time getting a new chain and sprockets and thought I'd make it here and then deal with it but....not so much.

Anyway, I'm getting some temp repairs done and hopefully that will get me to Buenos Aries.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
