Thanks David for your excellent report. I share many of your experiences (both good and bad!) in India. If you want warmer motorcycling there, consider Rajastan.

Seeing your blog, I like your mix of backpacking and motorcycling.....

Thank you , I did not finish my report, because I thought nobody is interested. N=ice to see that you are. Anyway I'm not a real motorcycler, but I'm trying. For me it;s great vehicle to go from point A to point B

best regards
David

Just continue to post your story anyway David. Your report is really interesting, that's for sure, and this is the right site for reports. To date you've had 196 views - that's good.

I think that if you ride your motorcycle and travel with it you are "a real motorcyclist". It's something you define for yourself! I'm sure many readers would love to do what you've done.

Keep on riding!!

Hi David,

Just had a quick read through this as we're currently in India, thanks for the mini report. I totally agree with you about the Pathankot road. We did it twice, 3 weeks ago as we rode up from Amritsar to Srinigar and back down again as can safely say that it's the most dangerous road we've come across on the whole trip.

The drivers on that road are crazy and we were run completely off the road by oncoming vehicles (the coaches are the worst!) about 10 times and spent most of time riding in the dirt on the side as we kept getting forced off. THe rest of India is bad, and the citiy traffic we can live with, but the Pathankot road is, for my money the most dangerous road in the world!!

Hi David - Reading through your post brings back my memories. :-)

This year in July.. I went on motorbike from srinagar to Leh via batalik highway and rode back from Leh to Srinagar via Lamayuru highway.. I must say this journey was turning point in my life as evidence that I have located this web portal for motorcycle journey's and I am planning a motorcycle journey in China on highway 219 next year in June-July.

I travelled with 2 of my friends who were locals from srinagar. I was riding Bajaj avenger and my friend had hero honda glamour and other guy had some honda bike. None of the bikes were more than 150cc. We had no repair kit, no puncture fixing equipment... and the highway is not that friendly.. gravel roads for almost 80-100 kms at various patches. I was measuring on speedometer :-)

It was tough.. weather condition was bad.. there was slight drizzle of rain all along the way. We were told not to cross Zojila Pass but instead we did. I rode motorbike after 10 years and straight away 1000kms approx...

Good to read your experience.. I will collect my thoughts and try to type my experience as well :-)

I am looking forward to the next part of your report. I like it very much.

And if you are not a real motorcyclist then nobody is. Anybody with money can buy a big Harley or BMW R1200GS Adventure and so on but what you do is the real motorcycling !

I have found your report very interesting, keep it coming! Touring on a small bike is just as much fun!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
