2010 RTW with K1200LT
Hi we are Marco & Bee, brand new here.
We are currently planning for our 1st RTW with our LT (i have worked at sea 24yrs and traveled RTW +6times) but at sea it's different ball game.
Ok here is the nut to chew,
we (im 6 1' 250LB wife 5 2' 90LB) planing to start from our home country what is Thailand, bike chosen -04 K1200LT, on our LT we have trailer for extra storage so i think we going to be ok with spares and equipments as it's seems now.
So we planned to start from Thai, ship bike to Chennai, India as around burma would take long time as China might be difficult for LT, from chennai to south india and then up to Mumbai to New Delhi (trafic is no roblem, have been riving in bangkok and that is nightmare already) then from India to Pakstan-Iran-Turkey-Bulgaria-Romania-hungary-Austria-Germany-poland-Lituania-Latvia-Estonia-Finland(haha,,home country)-Norway(north-Cape)then cost of Norway down to Oslo then to Denmark-Holland-Uk-Ireland-Usa-LA or San Fran-OZ-Indonesia-Singapore-Malaysia and back home Thailand.
Plan to start is early 2010 as getting enough cash,info and advice from you guys also all paper works for Thai registered bike takes time,,
Basiclly in not worry about anything in the coutries traveling, it's only about availability of fuel and spare parts for LT as that it's not anyones 20 top choises for RTW, i have been noted many times before of my choise of trasportation, But lets look in the brite side, if this is going to happen, what a comfortable ride that would be and for missus, sitting in the sofa around the world and looking around.

I have met a couple of people riding the flying brick, great choice for tarmac touring, very very comfy. I just can't stand that floating yoke, puts me right off

Hi Dave & Henry
we are so early to that part of the world planning yet,, as we are heading via Europe, i know that NZ is nice place and why not,, but like i said,, so early for that, i just wanted to see if there is some one who has done it with as Henry said "flying Brick"
It is true that it's big and most part in narrow roads uncomfortable, but i have managed, as im big lad.

Just came to my mind, in Middle East courties are there any restrictions for having trailer behind the bike?
if so what kind of if any permits we are required to have?

I did it with a Flying Brick...but an LT? Wow...now that would be sweet to see...
Just remove the fairing up front to help keep the bike cooler....and also save it from getting hurt during your trip.

Perfectly possible. Why not? Just prepare yourself for the farings not being so shiny by journey's end.
Only thing I would suggest is to fly to India rather than ship. Have a search around and you will find a good few bad shipping experiences into India, and no good ones.
Suggested mod to that lovely bulk of European excess you have: a fridge. Then you are SORTED!!

I was thinking of that but then have to say it would look like "Ugly Duggy", about hurting and getting it damaged,, yes that "Might" happen but that is one of those thing's, if it's happen it will happen.I dont mind.

You are so correct, then it's look like it has done some serious miles under the "faring's"

By shipping,, sorry my poor french,, i ment by flying bike to Chennai and then actually stard the road trip from there, i have first of all 800Km to Bkk to ride before getting started as i live close to LAO border on NE of TH.

othet thing i will consier and would like to get your info & Advice if possible
Having a trailer, pros and cons about it, it would give me extra space for spares and goods, but it will increase fuel consumption and the "Law" i know in EU, USA and generally westen world that is no problem, Middle east i have no idea, and I know some of you might think that what the H#@#LL, roads are so bad already, but as I'm not planning OFF ROad adventure and plan to stay with desent roads so if LT can do it, it should not be a problem for trailer, but like said, if you leave fuels, road comments away is there any other to be considered?

I can't think of any problems other than the ones you have mentioned. Parking is an issue maybe - you won't be quite as able to take your machine into the hotel lobby as others, but that's about it.
No poor world policeman is going to cite a westerner for trailer violation. There's no reason to expect that they would have any clue as to the relevant law.
I'd assume that the trailer hitch would be the weakest link in your system. But if you have successfully tried it out on the small roads around north east Thailand, it it is safe to say that it will work anywhere.
Best of all, at 40kilos, when the bike sofa gets tiresome, the OH can use the trailer as an impromptu sleeping compartment.

Ahoy there! What a great idea that is. Like you, I have been in the Navy for past 36 yrs n about time to RTW on land. You did not mentioned your departure date in 2010. I intend to ride Thailand sometime next yr n if date is right I might just meet up with u b4 your take-off to India. Ride Far Ride Safe. ABS
