Africa - What's hot and wha'ts not?
Hello
After one years planning, I only have one year left to go before I leave for Africa. It’s surprising how quickly time goes when you’re having fun poring over maps, country guides and reading the HUBB.
This post is for all those people that are in Africa or have travelled through Africa. What I’m basically interested in is what you think is worth seeing and what you thought was a real disappointment. Please include tourist and non-tourist sites. Well anything really.
The list of countries I’m planning on travelling through are…
Leaving from the UK
France
Spain
Morocco
Mauritania
Senegal
Mali
Burkina Faso
Niger
Nigeria
Cameroon
Gabon
Congo
DRC
Angola
Namibia
South Africa
Botswana
Zimbabwe
Zambia
Tanzania
Kenya
Ugandia
Ethiopia
Sudan
Egypt
Jordan
Syria
Turkey
Greece
Back to the UK.
Thanks

I got the ferry from Spain to Mellila, and (arriving at 6am!) it felt like a good start to a long trip. Just slipping into Africa pretty much un-noticed. No touts like Tanger, the police/officials gave me the customs forms and showed me where to queue. From there over the Rif mountains. Excellent.
Blue Nile Gorge north of Addis (towards Gondar) is a pretty good ride. The museums in Addis a pretty good too, for some off the bike stuff
Mali, the Catholic Mission in Bamako (if you can get in) is a good place to stay.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
