Bike on the Orient Express?
Hi All
I am planning on doing a trip from Valdivostok to the Uk and down to South Africa. I plan to start on the 1 September 2009 and because winter is coming I though of riding from Vlad to Ulan Ude or Irkutsk (to experience the Russian countryside and local people) then to put my bike on the train to Moscow.
Does any-one know if this is possible
Regards
Donald

Hey Duck,
It's the northern hemisphere so the warmest and best months are July/August. At either end of this June and September are typically nice, but the risk of cooler/crappier weather increases as you move away from the peak months.
Not sure why you picked September 1 as a start date, but if you can you would be better off aiming for something like July 1 and that would give you enough time to get across and ride in the best weather window. This of course does not gurantee that the weather will be good, but it does increase your odds of it being decent. Have fun, it's a great ride.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
