Blackpool to Croatia
Hi guys
After a long time I am planning a trip to Croatia. I need guidance.
I am hoping to cross the English Channel and drive via Strasbourg, France to Munich, Salzburg, Austria, cross Slovenia to Croatia.
Are there better routes and roads to be driven? Any advice will help.
Tips for Croatia will also help.
Badrakumar

I'm not sure where you are in the UK but don't assume that the channel is the best crossing point. There are a number of other very useful ones of you are a bit further north. I've used Hull to Zeebruge before, very handy.
What are your time constraints and do you plan to get to Croatia as quickly as possible in a motorway dash? If so consider which countries charge tolls. I always suggest avoiding French motorways where possible, dammed expensive - hit Germany as soon as possible. Faster too, depending on your bike and bravery.

Ah, ok, I didn't read the post title! Blackpool! In that case I'd seriously consider ditching the channel crossing and going from Hull, avoids both London and the French motorways.

Hull to Zeebrugge is a good choice IMO, when you go in to Slovenia do the Vrsic Pass, I really enjoyed it.

I would suggest some random locations, passes, etc: Vrsic pass, riding to Mangart is also great, Bovec (maybe try some white water rafting?), then move to Croatia, where you can stop at my place ( Lobagola B&B | design bed & breakfast in the center of Zagreb) to grab a cold and we can chat using the map to route your way over Balkans .
In Croatia a must see are Plitvice lakes National Park, and I would suggest to ride over Zumberak mountain, loads of twisties .
From Plitvice lakes you can venture to Bosnia and visit amazing little town Bihac, nearby which is famous abandoned air stripe at Zeljava.
I would not skip Bosnia if you are already in Croatia but if you give us more info about time available to do the ride I can be more precise with more suggestions.
Cheers

Thanks

The basic reason is that Belgian and German motorways are free but you have to pay to use the French ones. If you're heading for Croatia going down through France probably isn't the best of routes anyway as it's generally too far west. Not only that but you'll have to eventually head east across the top of Italy - and they charge for their motorways as well.
It depends on what you ride but a rough rule of thumb is that the motorway tolls will be of the same order as your fuel costs.

The ferry cost from Hull is equally expensive. I think it is Freight ferry that goes from hull.
The passenger one to Amsterdam is from Newcastle. Correct me if I am wrong.

The Hull ferry can be expensive, but I have found when you book it automatically gives to a cabin on your own, I always change it to a 4 berth shared, which puts the cabin price down from about £108 to £34. You play pot luck with whether someone is with you or not, I have used it for years and very rarely share, so I have the 4 berth to my self for £34
