BMW F650 for Mexico touring??
I'm planning a 4 month tour all over Mexico. Staying on pavement mostly, but I know there will be rough road sufaces and steep inclines etc.. Which motorcycle would be best suited for touring Mexico with a moderate amount of luggage? Reliability is more inmportant than comfort. I do not want to stand out, I simply want to enjoy the country and the people.

You are in good company. Take a look at the traveler's tales and you will see many people riding F650s. You might want to check out the Chain Gang at f650.com for F650 specific info.

Hi and happy travels in Mexico.I have a 2004 F650GS and have so far riden from the UK to Romania (5000miles to date),most of it two-up. The bike is very comfortable and so far totally reliable. Handling on good roads is great up to about 70mph (fully loaded) and on poor roads a bit less. It also handles dirt roads OK but is really a bit heavy with panniers etc. Mud is not good (on standard tyres anyway). Overall it's been an excellent bike and I hope it will carry me on to Turkey and Syria as well as it has so far.Good luck and enjoy.

If reliablity is a primary concern then you should go with a Japanese bike.

Most dual sport bikes should get you through 4 months in Mexico. The F650 will do you just fine. The toll roads are great (but expensive) and the others are slow and beautiful. Do you have a F650 now? I find the 650 a nice size, powerful enough to go quickly on the highway, light enough (barely) to push into the hotel lobby, and so far, major disaster free. The other nice part is good gas mileage. Enjoy the trip.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
