Brazzaville to Libreville on R1200GSA - looking for best roads
Hi all,
I am researching for a transafrica trip on the west coast.
I am hearing from a friend who did it in 2008 that the roads in congo are terrible, especially on a big bike like this.
Does anybody know the area? and can give advise?
Thanks, Alex

Okoyo - Léconi
Hi Alex,
Define "best".. Most enjoyable ? hardest ?
In case you're looking for the easiest, it's probably the road through Léconi. Three years ago it was all tar except for a few km of terrible road just before the border with Gabon. I'm guessing they must have finished surfacing the last stretch, but TIA.
Head north on N2 until Obouya, left at the big roundabout then south-west to Okoyo, where the tar used to stop. In Gabon it's all good roads.

Hi Laurent!
Thanks for the Infos. The puzzle pieces come together.
I would say I am a not the worst off-roader but the main goal is to make it...and best in one pieces ;-)
On the other hand I don't want to miss out on too much for the sake of beeing on the best roads...
I am very grateful for your advice. So far it looks like:
- rsa: easy
- Namibia: gravel, but good gravel
- Angola: fairly new roads
- Congo: up to Kinshasa/Brazzaville manageable
- NEW: Brazzaville to leconi manageable too
- Gabon: all tar
Cheers, Alex

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
