Buying motorcycles in Kazakhstan and riding to Spain

My friend and I are planning on buying motorcycles in Kazakhstan or Russia, depending on feasibility and then riding them through Europe to Spain. We were wondering if anyone knows about buying motorcycle there and how to deal with importing and exporting them through all those countries. We will be travelling in China by train and then head to Kazakhstan where we will start our motorcycle journey. I know about carnets, but purchasing the motorcycle while not having a residence in Kazakhstan (can we have a local buy them and get power of attorney to sell the motorcycles), and possibly selling them in Spain, shipping them to the U.S. or taking them with us on the freight ship. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Iran, Pakistan & India require the carnet (though Iran just might somehow be do-able without, or so I´ve read here). But I believe countries north side of them do not require the carnet.

Paperwork aside, I think one of your biggest problems could be the selection of bikes available on that part of the world, and their suitability to long-distance travel.

carnet?

No carnet is required in Kazakstan, Russia or the Ukraine. You can buy a bike in Kaz' but getting it out will require greasing a few palms. Do able I would think.

I'm planning to do the same...buy a bike in Almaty

Gave up on getting an Enfield classic 500 here in India as the 8 month waiting list is too long. So heading for Almaty - this probably has the best chance to find something to make it to Europe. I plan to be there early to mid June 2012 so if anyone is heading the other way and would like to sell their bike, please get in touch.

I have just entered Kazakstan on my UK registered BMW F650GS (2003). My plan was to ride on into China but cost means it's no longer an option. I am therefore looking to sell it in either Kazakstan or Kyrgystan.

The bike must leave Kazakstan by 2/10/14 to avoid customs charges.

I know it's a long shot but shipping it back seems very complicated!

Motorcycle registration

So guys - did you manage it to get back on the motorcycle you bought in Kazakh/Kyrgyz to Europe?

So I was wondering if the paperworks actually doable? What is the best way how to do it?

Should I buy that (or some local will buy for me in Kazakh or Kyrgyz´ and I will get power of attorney) - get transit plates - ride through kazakh borders - russian border - ukraine or latvian border to EU.

So what are the costs of the paperwork and is it doable - getting transit plate (how much does it cost?) and should I expect that I will have to bribe on the borders/pay high fees?

Or is there any other better option there?

Cheers,
Jan

Hey Ewerqe, from what I've heard buying a bike registered to a local and getting a power of attorney is good enough. It would probably be very difficult to re-sell the bike in Europe though. I'm also planning on buying a bike either in Kazakh/Kyrgyz/Mongolia and riding to Europe starting this September.
