Central America to South America
I am too conservative to give up a cushy job and so I am trying to see the world my own way. One trip at a time. I can generally get a month off each Christmas Season so I plan on doing yearly trips, until I can do a big time trip.
I am currently debating either buying a bike in South America (prefferably one registered in US), or riding to Panama, storing the bike for a year and flying it over to SA for future trips.
This is an open ended question, can be answered off line, but I am looking for hidded pitfalls of each option. The Cost is likely to be a bit more for doing the panama to SA option. I am aware of
the obvious problems and costs such as packing the bike for shipping, hidden costs/fees, potential damage. Other things to think about are flights, since one way flights tend to be almost as much $
as two way, having a base of operations to fly in and out of, such as Buenos Aires, Argentinga could save a bunch of money. Etc. Cost is important, but reducing hassle and having some flexibility is
more important, since I HAVE to get back to work after each trip. Damn it!
