Charity fundraising trip to Turkey
Hi All,
A slight update to this now as there have been recent developments!
A group of friends are planning a trip to Turkey next year (2009 now). The plan is to drive from a London'ish area through Europe to Turkey and then back via a ferry to Brindisi (Italy).
We're working out basic routes and kit lists etc, and I'll post them up here when we have something decent.
Advice welcome, also anyone that wants to join us.
A couple of us are absolute beginners on bikes, but the rest of the group are all pros at it.
We have also been thinking about making this a charity fundraiser too. Try and get as much support as possible and what is left over from the sale of a couple of the bikes goes to charity. Has anyone had much to do with this? Is it a lot of hard work?
Thanks
Ollie

Hi,
If you tell more about how long you intend to spend within Turkey, I can be of more help, where to visit, etc.

It seems like a run down the motorway then on to the ferry.. Is this really what you want to do I dont know the terms and conditions of your fundraising, but suggest you use Viamichelin.com to plan your route off the motorways ( peages anyway).
What is your return route? I prefer to always make a round trip of it rather than back and forth over the same roads.

Overland to Turkey
Hi Ollie
we run a small caravan and camping site in southern Bulgaria, see Home, which would be an ideal stopover for you. See what the people on a website called landroveradventure.co.uk said about us.
Cheers

Random question, how does everyone plan their routes and how far they want to travel each day?

My wife and I are hoping to travel from Turkey up to England in April next year, via Greece and the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea. i.e. through Macedonoa, Albania, Croatia etc.
As we will be travelling on 2 bikes and possibly me towing a camper trailer I can't imagine we will want to travel more than 250kms per day, but of course the distance travelled each day is less important than what we see and do on our journey.
We've allowed 3/4 weeks from Izmir to Calais or Hook of Holland, but our interest is the Turkey, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Serbia Croatia areas. We will take our time for this part of the journey (probably meaning less than 200kms per day and even staying a night or two somewhere) and make slightly more haste through the top of Italy and Germany etc.
I will be keeping a close eye on this thread for ideas, although there is plenty of info on this area available in various threads in this wonderful forum.
