Checking Route - Taking Suggestions
Hi everyone,
Doing the whole Cairo - Cape thing, east coast route in a Land Cruiser leaving late March. I've researched and got most of my route sorted, and have used the T4A stuff on Google Earth to really map it out. But some ways I'm unsure about, so thought I'd draw on some knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
1. Wadi Halfa -> Khartoum. I was thinking direct SE to Abu Hamed then following the Nile south to Khartoum. But it seems a lot of people follow the Nile from Wadi Halfa then cut through the desert to Khartoum on the new highway from Abu Dawm or from Dongola. You know the ones I mean. Would you recommend going via Dongola or keeping with my route through the desert? Is that desert route very hard?
2. Dar es Salaam -> Pemba. Basically want to follow the coast down, pass Mtwara, cross the river & border there (seems possible, not sure about getting visas though) and keep going to Pemba. From there we'd go a bit more south to hook up with the highway west to southern Malawi. If this seems to difficult, the only other option is to just go to northern Malawi and drive through it. Doesn't seem as fun But we'd rather miss out on some fun than be stuck in eastern Tanzania for weeks.
So yeah, just looking for advice/tips/ideas on those 2 routes. I've basically sorted the rest of the way out myself, using information from other travellers and HUBB. So thanks
Dan.
