Crossing Brazil in rainy season
Hi all,
We are currently planing a trip through South America. We will start and finish in Buenos Aires and we have between six to eight months to do it. We plan to leave in the middle of September and at the moment we are thinking of going clockwise through Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and finally Brazil. In this direction we hope that we can hit the dry season all the way to Venezuela where we plan to arrive in about February.
The question is; Will we be able to cross the Amazon in Febrary or March between Venezuela to Manaus and from Santarem to Maraba? How are the roads in Brazil during the rainy season?
We are open to any suggestions about the route eg. go anticlockwise instead you crazy fools, its much more sensible....
Thanks alot for any info.

Hi guy,s
The road from Venezuela to Manaus is a tarmac highway (but I have not been there yet).
Most roads in Brazil are tarmac.
Avoiding the rain in Brazil is dificult, when it,s dry in the Amazone region, it,s wet in the rest and visa versa.
I would not worry to much about it, I think it,s better to have it dry in the highlands of Bolivia and peru.
And... if you like your bike you can,t go onto the salar the uyuni in the rain-seison... It,s covered in water.
Hope this helps a bit
Maarten

When exactly is it considered the rainy season in the highlands of Peru and Bolivia?
Aren't we in an el niño year now? I'm no meteorologist but I did not enjoy the rains in Central America on my way down to Colombia and would like to avoid further dousings.
