Drive to Iran from UK
Hello,
I hope this is the right forum for this question:
We as a family would like to drive to Iran from UK and back within 6 weeks.
1- Suggestions on driving in Turkey with british number plate. Is it ok? safe?
2- safest route to drive from west to east towards the turkey/Iran border?
3- What documents/policies required to drive through Turkey and Iran ?
p.s. we did a 35000 miles in summer 2017 from UK to croatia and back so a little familiar with the countries up to that point of the world :-)
And anything else you consider useful for me to know.
Thank you

Yes it's safe. When you go through Turkey stay as far North as you can though just to be cautious.
To get into Turkey you don't need any additional documentation but for Iran you will need a CDP (Carnet) which can be costly.
I would avoid Iran during Ramadan, lots of shops closed during the day and it's forbidden to eat/drink in public and ladies should dress very conservatively.

Heads up- you will need an insurance green card to enter Turkey or you will have to buy insurance in local currency at the border before you get in.
Guide price- £130 for a Triumph Tiger 800 bike for 3 weeks. There’s a cash point there too and the insurance office is 24hour.

Read my pages on here- loads of info. There are several festivals you have to avoid including Ashura. As a Brit in Iran you’ll need an escort. Lots of home work there for you. Drop me a line if you like.

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
