Exclamation Dubai To Australia

I am in the early stages of planning a route from Dubai to Australia. I know I can catch a ferry across the Gulf of Arabia to get to Iran. From there I am expecting to travel east to Pakistan and then on to India and Nepal befor heading East to Nepal. after Nepal it looks like I am back into India with a choice of either going through Bangladesh of bypassing it in order to make my way to the Burma border. From Burma its into Thailand with a possible side trip to Cambodia or straight down the Malay Peninsular to Singapore where I will ship the bike to Darwin.

If anyone has expeience with these borders, I would like to here from you. Once I have sorted out the general route I would love to here from anyone who can point out interesting place to visit or 'must sees' on the route.

Or am I crazy.

Myoriginal plan was to ride to Moscow and put the bike on the train to Bejing then ride down the east coast of Asia, but I understand that you are not allowed to free wheel through China.

It´s been discussed here about once every week: you can´t do Burma with your own vehicle. Browse this site for more info.

Me, I would get the carnet, in order to get the bike to Indonesia, then island-hop to East Timor where you can ship to Darwin. Or actually you need the carnet also for Australia.

edit. Cambodia & Laos, even though will probably be a side trip, are also fantastic countries to ride. (Vietnam once again very hard to get your foreign vehicle into.)

Iran to Singapore

Hi
I'm heading throu Iran around September this year en route to Australia. Burma is currently a no no so I'm flying Kathmandu to Bangkok. Alternative is north into china and around to Laos but that would need a guide which can be expensive. Would be nice to drive through Burma and there have been rumors they may open borders but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Smile Burma Boarder Crossing

Trip is still a year away. Reasearch since my original post shows the Burma situation is causing consipation amoungst the touring faternity. Good news is as of today 2nd April 2012, they are getting the results in from the first democratic election held there in 22 years and that Aung San Suu Kyi, who leads the Democracy Party and who has been under house arrest in Burma for the last 15 years, has been elected by a large majority. So right now there is a lot of optimism surrounding the future of Burma.

Burma has been closed for over 40 years.
To even try it from the Indian side will be complicated, because the bordering states (in India) require special permits. At the very least you'll need the longest vacation anyone's ever had, and probably also the patience of a saint. Good luck!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
